Riding Lessons
We are dedicated to raising the next generation of responsible equestrians. We take this job seriously and focus on safety of our riders and excellent care of our horses. We offer group and private horseback riding lessons, but our schedule is quite full and group lessons are strongly encouraged. While we focus primarily on English riding, we offer lessons to Western riders as well. Unmounted lessons, which focus on horse management, grooming, leading, working on position from the ground, etc., are also an integral part of our program. We value variety in our lesson strategy.
Beginner Lessons
Beginner lessons include grooming and tacking up the horse. This is an important part of the lesson time. As the student progresses and can perform these tasks competently and independently, the student may come to the lesson early and be prepared to mount at the lesson time, thus giving more time for riding.
In our Beginner lessons, we work with students to become proficient through walk, trot, safe mounting and dismounts, and balance and control when riding. We will warm up, work on specific skills, use obstacles, and offer individual feedback in group lessons.
Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Lessons
Lessons progress from walk and trot to canter and jumping. We will work on improving the rider's seat and center of balance when riding, using appropriate aids during different gaits, transitions and also work on riding the horse over fences. Riders start to have more autonomy during lessons are and allowed to ride around the ranch independently. This is also the stage where we start to introduce going to shows off leadline, teaching trailering skills and how to care for your horse off-property.
Advanced Lessons
As riders advance, there is no limit to where they might go. We nurture our riders to wherever their dreams might take them. Working on excellent position and skills is always the basis of our training. Once those skills are mastered, moving up the levels is simply a matter of practicing and pushing the comfort zone a little at a time. Whether it be jumping, dressage, western rail classes, gymkhana, etc., our instructors have the knowledge, skills and experience to help riders attain their goals.
Our horseback riding lesson program is highly successful because we have a fantastic group of involved and dedicated families who ride with us. We value fun and comradery, paired with responsibility and mutual respect. Because of the demand for lessons in our program, we require a weekly commitment from our riders. We recommend that those looking for a more casual riding experience where they may cancel lessons and ride intermittently look for other opportunities.
